Maggiori informazioni sul libro

The volume „Fuzziness in Database Management Systems“ is a well-organized and current collection of contributions from leading experts in the field. Among the contributors are Professors Patrick Bose and Janusz Kacprzyk, both internationally recognized figures. The exploration of fuzziness in database management systems dates back to the late 1960s, particularly during my sabbatical at the IBM Research Laboratory in San Jose, where I collaborated with Dr. E. F. Codd, the pioneer of relational database models. This experience highlighted the significance of relational models and the need to extend them into fuzzy database systems and query languages. My insights from this period culminated in a 1973 IBM report that introduced the concept of linguistic variables and later led to the development of the PRUF (Possibilistic Relational Universal Fuzzy) language. Additionally, the theses of my students—V. Tahani, J. Yang, A. Bolour, M. Shen, and R. Sheng—along with numerous reports from both graduate and undergraduate students at Berkeley, further contributed to the discourse on database issues during that time.
