Literarisches Leben in Reval in der ersten Hälfte des 17. Jahrhunderts (1600 - 1657)

Maggiori informazioni sul libro

In Reval, a rich literary culture developed around the Gymnasium established in 1631. This study explores this evolution, highlighting the significance of the Gymnasialdruckerei and the German poet Paul Fleming (1609–1640). The examination of the literary life is conducted through two interconnected approaches. First, a newly created "Bibliographie der Revaler Literatur von den Anfängen bis 1657," presented in the second volume, compiles relevant printed works with a detailed analysis. Second, the first part of the study offers a tour of the city's significant literary institutions, including local and municipal authorities, churches, schools, and the book trade. This is further enriched by exploring literary interactions with neighboring cities and the presence of Revalers abroad, as well as foreigners in Reval. A key focus is the multifaceted analysis of urban occasional poetry. The result is a comprehensive portrayal of the literary life that delves into primary sources, providing deep insights into the literary culture. Additionally, the biographies of Reval's literary figures from 1600 to 1657 and the bibliography in the second part offer numerous opportunities for further research.
