This study presents a system-oriented approach for testing and assessing the slip resistance of safety, protective, and occupational footwear, aiming to reduce the hazard of slipping while walking. Key contributions include the concept of "action value and limit value of the coefficient of friction while walking," a conversion model for translating test results to real-world scenarios, and insights into how shoe design affects slip resistance. Additionally, it discusses the outcomes of a round-robin test according to DIN ISO 5725-2 and addresses measurement uncertainties related to DIN EN 13287. The "HML quality assurance method" is introduced to minimize measurement uncertainty. Conducted at the University of Wuppertal's safety engineering department, this research incorporates findings from HVBG project No. 259, which has been supported by the HVBG (now DGUV) since 2006. The project evaluates slip resistance tests per DIN EN 13287 to determine their applicability to critical practical conditions, enhancing the understanding of footwear safety in occupational settings.
