Self-regulated learning is based on complex cognitive processes in which motivation, metacognition, and learning strategies play their part. What do children think about learning? Are they, in the first two years of school, able to reflect on their learning processes? Is their thinking metacognitive? Children's learning and thinking have been closely examined in this study and it has become evident that children reflect much more than has been assumed so far.
