The architecture of Mexico stands out for its striking open spaces, garden living, and vibrant colors. In the mid-twentieth century, prominent architects like Luis Barragan and Mathias Goeritz began blending Euro-American Modernist design with Mexico's existing landscape and color palette, resulting in a unique design style. Contemporary Mexican Design showcases the clean lines of Modernist architects such as Isaac Broid, Teodoro Gonzalez de Leon, and Abraham Zabludovsky, alongside the vivid colors of Jorge Alessio Robles and Jose Iturbe. Khristaan Villela, director of the Thaw Art History Center and assistant professor of Art History at the College of Santa Fe, holds a doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin. Ellen Bradbury Reid, who has worked throughout the southwestern U.S. and Mexico, has a master's degree from the University of New Mexico and has contributed to the Beinecke Library at Yale University. She currently directs Recursos de Santa Fe. Logan Wagner, an architect and builder with deep knowledge of both traditional and contemporary Mexican architecture, studied anthropology and architecture in Mexico before earning a doctorate in architectural history from the University of Texas at Austin. He resides in Austin.
