The book contains an analysis of theoretical dependences, bottlenecks and limiting factors of a new technology used in both Consteel and shaft furnaces operating with flat bath. Performances obtained and potentialities of these furnaces are examined. Based on this analysis, a steel melting aggregate of the new type - fuel arc furnace FAF has been developed and offered. In comparison with the best modern electric arc furnaces of identical capacity the productivity of FAF is higher by 36% and electrical energy consumption is lower by a factor of 1.8. Environment characteristics are considerably improved. Inhaltsverzeichnis Flat bath is a revolutionary change of technological process.- Implementation of a new.- Theoretical analysis of both basic dependences and limiting factors of the flat bath technology.- Intensification of melting a scrap in the liquid metal.- High-temperature preheating a scrap.- Satisfying environmental regulations.- Fuel arc furnace (FAF) as a steel melting unit of proximate future.

This book provides essential knowledge for critically analyzing innovations in electric arc furnaces, aiding in the selection and implementation of the most effective technologies. It addresses the history, current state, and future prospects of steelmaking in electric arc furnaces, making it valuable for metallurgy students at colleges and universities. The text discusses modern concepts of arc furnace processes at a practical level, catering to readers who may lack expertise in heat transfer and hydro-gas dynamics. To bridge this gap, several chapters offer foundational information in these scientific fields. Additionally, the book reviews experiences with innovations in open-hearth furnaces and oxygen converters, presenting promising ideas for enhancing heat intensification relevant to developers of new processes and equipment for electric arc furnaces. It emphasizes that simplified calculations, as opposed to relying solely on commercial software, facilitate a deeper understanding of the physical principles involved. Numerous examples of such calculations using simplified methods and formulas are included, enabling readers to confidently perform their own calculations. Familiarity with the material will empower readers to tackle required calculations independently.
