On the Specification and Selection of Software Components and Services

The demand for better, cheaper, and faster development of application software systems stems from their critical role in the success and survival of businesses and institutions. Improving software development through new technologies and methods is essential to enhance quality and benefits while reducing lifecycle costs and project durations. Identifying effective starting points for research to achieve these goals is crucial. Software reuse, along with component- and service-orientation, are promising approaches in this context. This book comprises six research articles that explore these themes. It is based on my cumulative doctoral thesis, and I am grateful to many individuals for their support throughout this journey. I extend my heartfelt thanks to Prof. Dr. Klaus Turowski for facilitating my role as an external researcher at the Chair of Business Informatics and Systems Engineering at Universität Augsburg and for his invaluable assistance in critical moments. I also appreciate Prof. Dr. Robert Klein for his insights on my dissertation and Prof. Dr. Axel Tuma for overseeing the disputation. Special thanks to my co-authors, Dr. Sven Overhage and Michael ProB, for our successful and enjoyable collaboration on the research articles.
