Das 'Schwert Moses' ist eines der seltenen Bücher, das sich der praktischen Kabbala widmet. Mit vielen Anrufungen, Beschwörungen und 'Rezepten' für Schutz, Liebe, Rache, Ruhm, Erfolg und gegen viele Krankheiten. Für jedes Problem scheint es eine magische Anrufung und den dazu passenden unaussprechlichen Namen Gottes, bzw. den eines Engels zu geben. Das Manuskript stammt aus dem 14. Jahrhundert, wird aber schon im 10. Jahrhundert vom Leiter der jüdischen Akademien in Babylon, Haya Gaon, in einem Brief erwähnt. Der Ursprung des Buches reicht sicher noch weiter zurück. Diese Übersetzung hält sich an die englische Fassung von Moses Gaster. Gaster hatte in seiner Übersetzung den hebräischen Text im Anhang abgedruckt. Darauf haben wir verzichtet, jedoch haben wir alle hebräischen Namen aus der Abschrift direkt in den Text eingefügt. Gaster hatte in seiner englischen Fassung lediglich die Namen durch ein X dargestellt. Wir sehen in diesen Namen aber den eigentlichen Gehalt des Buches und geben sie deshalb an Ort und Stelle im Text wieder. Ein Zeitdokument magisch gnostischer Literatur.
