The United States currently has no federal ban on human cloning, and many scientists believe the technology is already advanced enough to successfully create a human clone. CLONE is set in a near-future world in which human cloning has become a legal industry in the United States. For those wealthy enough to afford it, cloning offers the opportunity to engineer replacement copies of loved ones who have died. The story begins shortly after the first three clones have turned eighteen as they seek to break free of their creators and forge their own destinies. Simultaneously, an undercover FBI investigation infiltrates the black market where defective clones are bought and sold for nefarious purposes.
