Se ci guardiamo intorno, possiamo renderci conto che non sono infrequenti le persone brutte, cattive o sporche; ma ci sono anche persone insieme cattive, sporche e brutte, come gli Sporcelli di questo libro di Dahl. Sembrerebbe poco interessante occuparsi di loro, e invece no. Gli Sporcelli hanno un’indole malvagia e fanno scherzi orribili: come quando la signora Sporcelli mise il suo occhio di vetro nel boccale di birra del marito, per fargli sapere che lo teneva sempre sotto controllo! Fortunatamente, gli Sporcelli non sono inesauribili nelle loro trovate, e alla fine, sia pure in modo del tutto involontario, rimangono vittime della loro stessa cattiveria. Di loro non rimarranno che due fagotti di stracci e quattro vecchie e sporche ciabatte.

The title was suggested by the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. I have many, often quite serious, pictures of people drawing animals or (more often) birds. Here they are just simply adapted to provide a handful of visual jokes. I hope they’re amusing. It may just have been an accident that I drew a man looking at a line on the floor. After that I drew a lot more, and after that I edited and redrew some so that the line took on a character of its own and one can believe (I hope) that it's actually moving, with its observer reacting appropriately. I thought it became almost like a simple, tiny animated film.
