Otto Ovid

    Publius Ovidius Naso, noto come Ovidio, fu un poeta romano i cui versi in distici elegiaci influenzarono profondamente l'arte e la letteratura occidentale. La sua poesia, in particolare le sue raccolte di poesie d'amore e il suo esteso racconto mitologico in quindici libri, fu ampiamente imitata e rimane una fonte vitale per la mitologia classica. Ovidio, tradizionalmente annoverato tra i più importanti poeti latini, godette di immensa popolarità ai suoi tempi, ma fu esiliato dall'imperatore Augusto per ragioni ancora dibattute tra gli studiosi. Anche in esilio continuò a scrivere, producendo elegie sotto forma di lettere che continuano ad affascinare per la loro toccante e artistica espressione letteraria.
