Il materiale che compone questo libro è stato recuperato dai quattro computer e dagli archivi dell'autore, stroncato da un infarto l'11 maggio 2001 a 49 anni. Questa raccolta comprende tra l'altro una lettera al direttore di una rivista per ragazzi (scritta nel 1965 quando Adams aveva 12 anni); un sognante ricordo della sua lunga storia d'amore per i Beatles, scritto a 40 anni; un pezzo pubblicato nel 1991 intitolato "Il mio naso" e un articolo in cui Adams chiarisce la sua passione per il whiskey ma soprattutto i dieci capitoli in progress del romanzo che stava completando dal titolo appunto "Il salmone del dubbio".
