Building the future now. The iconic work of a singular architect Zaha Hadid is a wildly controversial architect, who for many years built almost nothing, despite her designs winning prizes and critical acclaim. Some even said her work was unbuildable. Yet over the past decade she has completed numerous structures including the Rosenthal Center for Contemporary Art in Cincinnati (which the New York Times called ’’the most important new building in America since the Cold War’’), the Phaeno Science Center in Wolfsburg, Germany, and the Central Building of the new BMW Assembly Plant in Leipzig. Today, Hadid is firmly established among the élite of world architecture, her audacious and futuristic designs having catapulted her to international fame. Born in Baghdad and educated in London, where her practice is based, Hadid has designed radical architecture for over 30 years and is now the subject of this massive TASCHEN monograph. Covering her complete works to date, and all of her recent work from Dubai to Guangzhou, this XL tome demonstrates the progression of Hadid’s career—including not only buildings but also furniture and interior designs—with in-depth texts, spectacular photos, and her own drawings. Also included is a special section with translucent vellum paper allowing multiple layers of designs to be viewed at once or separately.
The definitive guide to modern and contemporary art of the Middle East and
Arab world since 1945. Includes more than 500 colour illustrations, a guide to
Arabic script and biographies of the 200-plus featured artists.
Long-awaited GA ARCHITECT 05 ZAHA HADID is being republished. In 1983, Zaha Hadid made brilliant debut by winning first prize at the competition of “The Peak” in Hong Kong. This project was never realized and she was called the “Queen of the Unbuilt” at that time. However, her distinctive drawings were full of energy which indicated her future success. GA ARCHITECT 05 ZAHA HADID includes 9 projects in her early days. Her drawings are reproduced with high definition and displayed in beautiful layout. The preface is written by Arata Isozaki, who discovered her talent at the competition of "The Peak". This monumental book is a must to know the first stage of the master of contemporary architecture.
The signature qualities in Zaha Hadid's architecture - dramatic spaces, interweaving of layers and unusual play of light - are captured in these photographs. This volume included photographs of two buildings, the Vitra Fire Stataion and LF One, as well as two exhibition installations.
Covering her complete works to date, and all her new work from Dubai to Guangzhou, this text clearly demonstrates the progression of Hadid's career - not only buildings but also furniture and interior designs - and including in-depth texts, photos and her own drawings.
Zaha Hadid (*1950 in Baghdad), recipient of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, designed and curated a groundbreaking exhibition at Zurich's Galerie Gmurzynska, comparing works of the Russian avant-garde with those of Zaha Hadid Architects. A fierce explosion of Russian works tore through the contemporary works by the architect in a dynamic black and white design. Created specifically for the venue, the projection of a two-dimensional drawing onto a three dimensional space transformed the gallery into a spatial painting in which the threshold of the picture plane expanded and could be entered. Zaha Hadid translated the warped and weightless space of Russian avant-garde painting and sculpture by Kazimir Malevich, El Lissitzky, and Alexander Rodchenko into her very own architectural language. Having trained and lectured at London's prestigious Architectural Association and worked with Rem Koolhaas in his Office for Metropolitan Architecture, Zaha Hadid opened her own practice in 1987, and since then she has gained worldwide recognition for her bold and original vision. Long admired for her dazzling "paper architecture," in recent years Hadid has won much critical and popular acclaim with her built work, and this volume features such celebrated high-profile projects as the Vitra Fire Station in Weil am Rhein, Germany, the Mind Zone at the Millennium Dome outside of London, and the legendary Monsoon Bar in Tokyo. With the completion in 2003 of the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati, Hadid achieved the distinction of being the only woman to have ever designed a major American museum. This comprehensive monograph offers a complete overview of Hadid's work-from her designs, drawings, and paintings to her sketches, plans, and models. Winner, Pritzker Architecture Prize, 2004
