    • Karl K nig founded the Camphill movement and was a prolific lecturer and writer on a wide range of subjects, including Anthroposophy, Christology, social issues, therapeutic education, science, and history. The Karl K nig Archive is a program that will gradually publish all of K nig's works. In this remarkable collection of Dr. K nig's letters and essays, he considers and discusses the fundamentals of special needs education. He shows that there are three core aspects of a successful holistic approach to healing. First is a positive social environment, which in the context of Camphill arises through small family units of caregivers and children. Second, the caregivers' work is based on insightful understanding of the nature and potential of each disability. And third, medical treatment it imbued with courage to keep the faith that the impossible can be made possible.

Nothing quite comparable on animals can be found anywhere else. The unique insights of anthroposophy, the mythological archetypes, the scientific wonders are all infused with much compassion and understanding for the true being of animals. König's "imaginative zoology" leads us to experience new horizons of consciousness and offers amazing insights into human nature. During the last ten years of his life, König worked on a series of essays about animals. These have been published in three separate volumes, of which this title is the third and last.

    • What does it mean to be human? Human development unfolds in a twofold way. On the one hand, there is an ever-more profound incarnation, or “inhabitation,” of the physical body. On the other hand, there is the increasing discrimination of the individual objects of the world. Difficulties and obstacles along this path can lead to so-called disabilities. König’s approach to curative education allows us to see these disabilities as meaningful ways of coping with or resolving the various problems that arise in living in a physical body. From this point of view, “disabilities” are exaggerated forms of ways we all use to cope with life. “The point is not only to see the deviations, but to see them against the mighty backdrop of a comprehensive child anthropology.” Being Human presents the outline of just such a comprehensive anthropology. Being Human is of value not only to those working in special education, but to anyone interested in the dynamics of incarnation and “normal” development.
