    • A practical blueprint to rebuilding an education system that is no longer working for its students In From Reopen to Reinvent, distinguished education strategist Michael B. Horn delivers a provocative and eye-opening call to action for the overthrow of an education system that is not working well for any of its students. Grounded in what educators should build in its place to address the challenges that stem from widespread unmet learning needs, the book walks readers through the design of a better path forward. Using time-tested leadership and innovation frameworks like Jobs to Be Done, “Begin with the End,” tools of cooperation, threat-rigidity, and discovery-driven planning, From Reopen to Reinvent offers a prescriptive and holistic approach to the purpose of schooling, the importance of focusing on mastery for each student, and the ideal use of technology. It also provides readers with: A set of processes and ideals that schools should implement to deal with the challenges they presently face A way to transform threats into opportunities using threat-rigidity research A discussion of how the COVID-19 pandemic revealed that schools are not as flexible and equitable as we need them to be Perfect for K-12 educators and parents and school board members involved in the school community, From Reopen to Reinvent is also an essential resource for professionals working in education-related non-profits and state education agencies.

    • Administrators of museums and other informal-learning centers often need to demonstrate, in some tangible way, the effectiveness of their institutions as teaching tools. Practical Evaluation Guide discusses specific methods for analyzing audience learning and behavior in museums, zoos, botanic gardens, nature centers, camps, and youth programs. The Practical Evaluation Guide is an all-in-one resource to guide professionals working in museums and other informal educational institutions. This new edition includes updates throughout and features a brand-new chapter on evaluating digital interactive exhibits. The section on observational tools includes a new section on using video recordings and the section on interviews includes recent studies from countries outside the U.S. This book serves as a basic, easy-to-follow guide for museum professionals and students who want to understand the effects of such public institutions on the people who visit them.

"At its heart, this book is about addressing the college-choosing problem. It is about helping people make better, more satisfying choices. The rankings, metrics, analytics, college visits, and advice that we use today to help us make these decisions are out of step with the progress individual students are trying to make. They don't give students and families the information and context they need to make such a high-stakes decision about whether and where to get an education. This book seeks to strip away the noise to help us understand what's driving us and what we are trying to accomplish as individuals to help us make better choices. The research in this book illustrates that choosing a college is complicated. By constructing mini-documentaries of how more than 100 students chose over 200 different postsecondary educational experiences, the authors explore the motivations for how and why people make the decisions that they do at a much deeper, causal level. The authors will help readers understand not what job students want out of college, but what "Job" students were hiring college to do for them. By understanding these motivations through what we call the "Jobs to be Done" theory, the authors have been able to piece together five different Jobs for which students hire postsecondary education. Accordingly, from these Jobs, readers will understand the set of experiences necessary to help them get a particular Job done well, offer them guidance for how to frame the decision before them, and allow them to see their true set of desirable options. The stakes and risk of making decisions about postsecondary education have soared to the point where it can be hard to recover from a bad choice, but our process for choosing has stayed the same. This book aims to change that by preparing students and families to make the decision about their education with greater precision than ever before"-- Provided by publisher

    • What if a science-backed book showed that Atlantis was a real place, a lush island that once existed in the Atlantic? A book that provides overwhelming evidence that Atlantis once likely existed. Behind connecting this discovery to Atlantis is Michael Horn. He is an award-winning aerospace scientist. He was a career scientist and principal investigator at the Research Centers of Northrop Grumman and Brookhaven National Labs. His inventions have won him acclaim as the Inventor of the Year Awards in both Aerospace and Popular Science Magazine. He is considered an expert in many of the comparable technologies used by Geologists and Geophysicists. He has turned his extensive scientific expertise into Solving the Mystery of Atlantis!
