This book aims to reactivate the archival material by Ulli Beier, co-founder of the Black Orpheus Magazine and the Mbari Clubs in Nigeria in the early 1960s. To better understand the formation of modernities from a transcultur- al perspective, the book gives an overview on the exciting times of the Mbari Artists and Writers Club in Ibadan through the archival documents. This book is published in the context of the exhibition „museum global. Micro- histories of an Ex-centric Modernism“ by Kunstsammlung NRW, Düsseldorf and is the rst collaboration between the Centre of Black Culture and Inter- national Understanding in Osogbo (Nigeria) and Iwalewahaus, University of Bayreuth.

Katharina Sieverding (*1941) gehört zu den international gefeierten Fotopionierinnen ihrer Generation. Bereits seit den späten 1960er-Jahren stellt sie mit ihren Arbeiten Fragen zu Identität, Gender und Race sowie der Macht der Bilder und deren gesellschaftlicher Verantwortung. Mit ihren monumentalen Werken im Kontext von Performance, Body Art und Experimentalfilm hat sie der Fotografie eine neue Dimension hinzugefügt. Sie begreift das Medium als plastisch formbares und transformierbares Material, das sich in ein interdisziplinäres Denken und Arbeiten weiten muss und letztendlich immer mit einem politischen Kommentar verbunden ist. Der umfangreiche Band dokumentiert die Werke der Ausstellung und veröffentlicht Sieverdings umfassendes Archiv als einen offenen Denk- und Diskursraum.
