The present work is a collection of 30 Spanish artistic ballads by Lope de Vega, Luis de Góngora, Pedro Linán de Riaza and Juan de Salinas. Three anonymous ballads complete the survey of the principal genres that were popular in the last decades of the XVIth century. The «Introduction» places these romances nuevos in historical perspective and discusses characteristics and problems unique to them. Source references by previous scholars and a brief commentary accompany each poem. «Introduction» and commentaries are in English.
