This manual proposes solutions to the problems that arise when sporting interests conflict with environmental ones. For all sports are practised on the ground, in the air or in water, on open ground or in settled areas, and can often, under certain circumstances, prove environmentally harmful. The common objectives of environmental organizations and sports federations are laid out, as are methods of fair play with one another when conflicts occur. To assess the impact of the sports type on the environment, the spaces affected are differentiated according to stability and susceptibility to harm. An overview of the relationship between sport and the environment - which is frequently fraught with misunderstandings - is laid out using a wide range of data and analyses.
