This proceedings volume features selected papers from the Eighth International Conference on Computer-Aided Scheduling in Public Transport (CASPT 2000), held at the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Berlin, Germany, from June 21 to 23, 2000. CASPT 2000 continues a series of international workshops and conferences focused on advancements in computer-aided scheduling for public transport. Previous events took place in locations such as Chicago (1975), Leeds (1980), Montreal (1983 and 1990), Hamburg (1987), Lisbon (1993), and Cambridge, Mass. (1997). This conference marked the 25th anniversary of the series, which began with a workshop on automated scheduling techniques for urban public transportation services. While the primary focus remained on public mass transit, CASPT 2000 also explored computer-aided scheduling methods applicable to other passenger transport systems. The volume highlights common operational research techniques, including column generation methods. Although the first workshop did not produce formal proceedings, subsequent conferences have been well-documented, contributing significantly to the field of computer scheduling in public transport.
