De l'apocalypse

Maggiori informazioni sul libro

Throughout the different phases of Michael Nowottny s career his work has been centred around human struggle. His expressiveness and clarity have allowed him to capture human passion and sensibility in everyday life in an objective and formal way. Nowottny s travels in Gotland and Florence have also inspired him to deal with medieval religious and artistic motifs which have turned out to be a constant theme in his work. In Nowottny's work, the term portraits also includes the idea of space and events, but the truths of the worlds reflected in his extensive volume of portraits never lose their traces of individuality and humour. Nowottny also creates digital sketchbooks through camera and video techniques, which have become a substantial part of the formation of his paintings. The artist documents their developmental process in the form of videos, photos, pencil sketches and water colour paintings. In this way the process of painting and finishing a piece of work becomes the central subject of Nowottny's artistic investigation. Published on the occasion of the exhibition Michael Nowottny. Portraits. From the Apocalypse to Dag Bad at la maison, Paris, October 2004.
