There is immense satisfaction in passing on surgical lessons to the next generation. As seasoned cardiac surgeons, we recall our trainee days, acquiring Operative Atlases to prepare for teaching in the operating room. However, written content and illustrations differ from real surgery. To address this, we created the second edition of a new-concept operative atlas. Upon receiving the German Cardiac Surgical Operative Atlas, co-editor David H. Adams was impressed by its simplicity and utility, explaining the quick sell-out of the first edition. In this second International Edition, beginning surgeons can review basic techniques like cannulation strategies and internal mammary harvest. More advanced chapters cover complex procedures such as valve-sparing or reconstructive operations, illustrated with high-quality operative photographs. These original images provide clarity and depth that drawings cannot match, accompanied by concise legends highlighting key points and take-home messages. This atlas offers valuable insights for every student of cardiac surgery, from novice residents to experienced surgeons facing complex cases. Operative Atlases have long been integral to surgical training, and this edition aims to support young cardiac surgeons while serving as a valuable resource for all.
