The Association of Geographic Information Laboratories for Europe (AGILE) was founded in 1998 to enhance academic teaching and research on GIS across Europe. The annual AGILE conference has since evolved into the leading GIScience conference in the region, serving as a multidisciplinary platform for knowledge production and dissemination. GIScience encompasses the understanding and automatic processing of geospatial information, represented through vector or raster formats. While GIS researchers have primarily focused on vector data, disciplines like photogrammetry and computer vision have concentrated on raster data. Historically, photogrammetry and image analysis received limited attention at AGILE conferences. To expand the range of topics, the AGILE 2009 conference is being co-organized with a Workshop of the International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS), focusing on High Resolution Satellite Imagery and led by Prof. Christian Heipke from Leibniz Universität Hannover. This collaboration aims to foster connections between research communities and facilitate exchanges among participants, promoting a deeper mutual understanding. The hope is that this initiative will help researchers identify shared interests and methodologies, laying the groundwork for potential future collaborations.
