Maggiori informazioni sul libro

Natural ecosystems rely heavily on water, which is vital for life development. The quality and availability of water are influenced by ecology and landscape. Exceptional hydrological phenomena are often found in protected areas, such as geysers in Yellowstone National Park, the Ramsar wetlands, Iguaçu Falls, and the Zapata Swamp in Cuba. Despite their significance, conservation strategies for hydraulic resources in these areas are frequently overlooked or inadequately addressed. Effective management strategies are essential for planning and safeguarding these valuable resources. The first Symposium for the Management of Hydraulic Resources in Protected Areas aimed to foster communication about water resource management experiences in these regions. Discussions focused on research advancements and potential solutions to existing challenges. The contributions in this proceedings volume are organized into seven main themes: purification and reuse of wastewater in rural communities; the impact of public use on water resources; vulnerabilities and risks related to aquifers; design and management of water resources in protected areas; research and monitoring of water resources; the role of water as a renewable energy source; and the conservation of geodiversity and hydraulic heritage.
