While conference interpreting has become a well-established discipline, community interpreting remains a neglected research area despite its increasing significance. The presence and actions of interpreters raise sociological communication issues, leading to contrasting views of interpreters as either 'verbatim' message reproducers or as 'advocators', 'cultural brokers', or 'conciliators'. However, existing literature offers limited exploration of how individual parameters interact within specific communication events to clarify the interpreter's role. This paper investigates the interpreter's scope of action in various situations by establishing and describing static and dynamic parameters within a triadic discourse communication model. The interpreter's reproduction of a target message involves an interplay of interpreting filters (IF) through which a source message (M) transforms into a target message (M'). This framework, termed the Triadic Discourse Interpreting Model (TRIM), illustrates how static components define the essential 'ingredients' of interpreter-mediated communication, while dynamic components depict the progression of the original message M through various filters, including discourse purpose, coherence, topic continuity, isotopic continuity, knowledge, and interest filters. These stages lead to different types of target messages (zero M', partially invariant M', variant M', invariant M').
