Maggiori informazioni sul libro
In November 2012, Studio Manuel Raeder, alongside designer Santiago da Silva, began creating three display structures and furniture for Centro de Diseño de Oaxaca in Mexico. This institution, the first of its kind in Mexico, views design as a catalyst for social change, emphasizing its connection to social structures and identity. The studio and Centro de Diseño de Oaxaca share a belief that form is linked to production, which in turn fosters alternative economic relationships through dialogue and idea exchange. The furniture includes plastic and wooden stools, upturned buckets, and reconfigured Monobloc chairs covered with woven palm leaf. A modular cake table was developed with a local furniture factory and wood producers. Two wooden cubic structures showcase a selection of catalogues and artist books central to Studio Manuel Raeder's practice over the past decade. Instead of presenting a conventional back catalogue, the publications are spatially exhibited alongside collected objects, including pieces of Barro Negro (Black Clay) pottery from Oaxacan workshops. This collection reflects the designers' interactions with local artisans and ancestral craft techniques during their extended stay in Mexico. Text originally published in the booklet "4 projects in Mexico" at k. m, Munich.
