Maggiori informazioni sul libro

This monograph explores the life and work of architect Carl Krayl (1890–1947), a key figure in High Modernism alongside notable contemporaries like Walter Gropius and Hans Scharoun. Krayl was actively involved in the postwar avant-garde movements, contributing to the Arbeitsrat für Kunst and the Gläserne Kette. In 1921, he joined Bruno Taut in Magdeburg, where he gained recognition for his Expressionist designs and the “Colorful Magdeburg” campaign, which featured striking painted facades. By 1923, Krayl shifted to a functional style, becoming a prominent advocate of Neues Bauen (New Building) as a member of the Der Ring architects’ association. His efforts significantly contributed to Magdeburg's transformation into a modern movement hub, influencing other municipalities. The book includes essays by Ute Maasberg, Wolfgang Pehnt, and Regina Prinz, placing Krayl’s work within early 20th-century architectural history. It presents a curated selection of his architectural projects, accompanied by a comprehensive list of his works. With 270 images, the publication showcases not only his buildings but also plans, drawings, and previously unpublished materials, offering valuable insights into his contributions to architecture.
