Richard Hamilton - Sigfried Giedion: Reaper

Maggiori informazioni sul libro

This publication, accompanying the exhibition in Zurich in Spring 2017, explores the conceptual encounter between Richard Hamilton, an English Pop artist, and Sigfried Giedion, a Swiss architectural historian and critic known for his influential work, "Space, Time & Architecture." In 1949, Hamilton, part of the Independent Group, created the “Reaper” print series in response to Giedion’s 1948 book, "Mechanization Takes Command," which examines the mechanization of daily life. This publication features Hamilton’s complete “Reaper” series alongside selected illustrations by Giedion and other related works. It includes seven essays by esteemed international scholars who investigate the connections between visual arts, technology, science, and architecture. Topics covered range from Hamilton’s early works and exhibition practices to postwar British biotechnology and architecture, “Hippie Modernism,” and the visual strategies employed in Giedion’s publications. Released in conjunction with the exhibition "Reaper. Richard Hamilton and Sigfried Giedion" at the Graphische Sammlung ETH Zürich (May 3–June 25, 2017), this work is a collaboration between Graphische Sammlung ETH Zürich, gta exhibitions, and gta archive.
