Sheila Toledo Ribes holds a Fine Arts degree from the University Politécnica in Valencia and has completed two master's programs in Glass Arts at the IKKG University in Germany. Currently, she is pursuing doctoral research on art and psychosis. Her experience spans art and psychiatric institutions in both Germany and Spain, and her work has been exhibited in various museums across Europe, the United States, Cuba, and South America. Her art explores the themes of narcissism and psychosis prevalent in contemporary society, highlighting the pathological effects of societal stress, which manifest as anxiety, depression, and a loss of self. The proliferation of new media and communication, along with current food policies, creates an illusion of normalcy, masking deeper psychological turmoil that breeds phobias and insecurity. This phenomenon resembles a high-speed train fueled by rampant consumerism, as nations reflect upon the American model, resulting in a fragmented, insect-like division of labor. Toledo Ribes’ artistic foundation critiques the destructive impact of global media, addressing narcissism as a social consequence and collective psychosis as a reflection of our fragile consciousness within a "glass society." Her work invites viewers to confront the underlying issues that threaten our mental well-being in an increasingly disconnected world.
