Thirteen years have passed since the first volume, and the Editor is pleased to present volume 16. In this time, drug research has experienced significant, often revolutionary changes, many of which have been addressed in the series PROGRESS IN DRUG RESEARCH, offering a comprehensive review of our current knowledge. The Editor appreciates the opportunity to share the extensive insights of the Authors, all of whom are actively engaged in research. Drug research is undergoing transformation, reflecting on the past while reorienting for the future. This shift is largely due to the unprecedented developments of the past two decades, the full impact of which is still being assessed. However, the current landscape is not without its challenges and tragic elements, which lie beyond the control of researchers. Those involved in drug research—whether in industry, academia, or clinical settings—are acutely aware of these issues and increasingly require resources to help them understand the present situation and set future objectives.
