America’s Di|vided Self explores the notion that the strength of American world power is less about economic or military might and more about media and financial manipulation. The text argues that banknotes are merely illusions, sustained by governmental authority. This manipulation serves to restore the credibility of American financial power and revive the fading illusion of money. Debts must eventually be settled, whether through economic crashes, debt destruction, or currency reforms aimed at clearing state debts for a fresh start. While laborious repayment is possible, current debts are too excessive for that approach. Postponing repayment emerges as a sensible option. The narrative reveals that the money circulating nationally and internationally is based on fiction, with bank money being more dubious than paper currency. Notably, banknotes are essentially promissory notes, as indicated by their legal tender status. Paradoxically, the Third World may now hold more power over industrialized nations than vice versa. The creditors, rather than the debtors, face greater unpredictability, echoing Lord Keynes' assertion that a bank's problem escalates with the size of the debt owed to it.
