This study explores the connections between quality in press reporting, information policy and socio-economic complexity, with a view to identifying the forms and 'rules of the game' determining the way these factors interrelate and examining the susceptibility of press reporting to strategic exploitation. Concrete reference is made to newspaper reporting in the Federal Republic of Germany, the former GDR, Taiwan and the People's Republic of China.
