OCS, the International Workshop on Optical SuperComputing, serves as an annual forum for research on optical computing's role in addressing complex computational tasks. With the limitations of electronic devices, such as frequency constraints, cross-talk issues, and soft errors, alongside the inherent parallelism and advancements in fiber optics and optical switches, optical computing is gaining traction as a viable computing infrastructure. The workshop emphasizes research on the theory, design, specification, analysis, implementation, and application of optical supercomputers. Topics of interest encompass the design of optical computing devices, electro-optics for interaction, practical implementations, analysis of existing devices, optical and laser switching technologies, and applications and algorithms tailored for optical devices, including advancements in nano-technologies. The inaugural workshop took place on August 26, 2008, in Vienna, Austria, alongside the 7th International Conference on Unconventional Computing. This volume features eight contributions selected by the program committee, along with two invited papers, all rigorously evaluated by at least three committee members and external reviewers via the EasyChair system. The event was organized in collaboration with the Optical Society of America, with support from Ben-Gurion University and Babeș-Bolyai University acknowledged.
