In tracking Melanchthon, the individual articles look into the impact he had in various ways between the 16th and the 20th century. Many scholars have had problems with Melanchthon, and the negative judgment of him as the spoiler of the Reformation still continues to have an effect. Nevertheless, as a polymath who represented almost all of the well-known scholarly traditions of his time, Melanchthon influenced a great many different developments in the modern era. This volume shows that Melanchthon posed questions in theology, philosophy, historiography, religious policy, ethics and natural sciences which we are still trying to answer today.
