The adjoining parishes of Skene and Echt just to the west of Aberdeen have evidence of human settlement dating as far back as the Bronze Age but remained largely rural in nature until the 1960s which saw a rapid increase in building and population. The collection of photographs in this book recall a quieter time and cover a period from the late 19th century to the late 20th with images such as the Central Public School at Skene, James Goodall s buses and garage in Echt, the Proctor Orphanage off the Old Skene Road, a turn of the century photo of Kirktown, Easter Skene House designed by Tudor Johnny Smith, Aberdeen s city architect and a fine view of Dunecht House.
