Set in the early 19th century, the story follows Edmond Dantes, a sailor wrongfully imprisoned in Château D'If by his enemies. In prison, he befriends an abbé who educates him and reveals the location of a hidden treasure. After escaping and amassing wealth as the Count of Monte Cristo, Dantes seeks revenge on those who betrayed him, including his former shipmate Danglars and Fernand, who took his fiancée Mercedes. Complications arise when Dantes's plans threaten the life of Albert, the son of his lost love, forcing him to confront his past.
