Inspired by the Scottish rebel Rob-Roy MacGregor, this work by Berlioz was composed in Rome during the summer of 1831 and premiered in 1833. Although the composer abandoned it shortly after, elements of the piece were later incorporated into his renowned "Harold in Italy."
