Mealybugs are significant pests affecting both indoor and outdoor ornamental plants, causing extensive damage by extracting sap through their needle-like mouthparts. Heavy infestations lead to plant disfiguration, with the secretion of honeydew promoting sooty mold growth. Some mealybug species can inject toxins, resulting in bud and leaf drop. Their distinctive whitish, waxy appearance, along with long filaments in certain species, contributes to their identification. These pests can stunt growth, discolor leaves, and ultimately threaten plant survival, particularly in indoor environments.
