The story follows Christopher Paul Buchanon, a U.S. Army sergeant who returns from Afghanistan in 2009 with a service-related disability. Rather than being discharged, he receives training in drone operation at Fort Creech, Nevada. As the military landscape shifts following Osama bin Laden's death in 2011 and the withdrawal of combat troops, Buchanon faces the challenges of transitioning to civilian life amidst a downsizing military.
