Sabbatical: A novel is the story of Danielle Giroux's one year journey to the desert and back. Danielle is very depressed. Mental depression is, of course, a very serious condition usually requiring professional help and (now that it is available) medication, but Danielle has committed to one year sabbatical in Tucson, Arizona. She has no time for therapy. In the midst of her blues she finds what she needs. In a land of cowboys, guns, drugs, purple sunsets, blue mountains, two armed cacti, college textbooks, and exams, life brings her back from the edge, so she can begin again. Although this 'shock' treatment worked for Danielle, it is not recommended. In other words, don't try this at home.
