Many years ago, I was one of those naive expectant mothers who thought that a simple formula of faith, love and discipline would produce the perfect child. Those who had a problem child, I surmised, either didn't have enough religion in their home, didn't love their child enough or didn't discipline him/her enough. So when, much to my dismay and perplexity, my child began to display chronic problem behaviors I blamed myself.
