Picture processing by computer has diverse applications, with character recognition being notably successful. Techniques extend to sophisticated uses like interpreting biomedical images, analyzing X-ray films, measuring images in nuclear physics, and processing extensive pictorial data from satellites. This research focuses on the computer analysis and identification of human faces. A computer program successfully analyzes facial features, extracting key points such as the nose, mouth, and eyes. Tested with over 800 photographs, the research emphasizes integrating picture structures into the analysis program. The program's success is attributed to a flexible analysis scheme with feedback mechanisms, which will be elaborated in the following chapter. An experiment involving face identification of 20 individuals was also conducted. When presented with images of human faces, we can easily identify the positions of facial features and recognize that both images depict the same person. This thesis centers on human-face pictures as the subject of processing, highlighting advancements in picture analysis and recognition through computer technology.
