The bibliography lists all the writings on rhetoric which have been published in the German-speaking world since 1945. Works in other languages have however been included if they were published in German-language journals. Each publication has been critically evaluated. For those books whose title does not indicate clearly that they deal with rhetoric a short commentary has been added which calls attention to the part of the work dealing with rhetoric. A comprehensive index of subjects classifies the bibliography according to fields of research and scholarly disciplines as well as to the genres dealt with, the themes, motifs, topoi and arguments. A chronological table shows the historical progress of research on rhetoric in the FRG from 1945 on.
