Based on the distinction between science and popularity in the works of J. G. Fichte and his contemporaries, this study draws a line to the fundamental distinction between knowledge and life. In doing so, Fichte‹s theory of love, his attitude toward Christianity, his philosophy of language and his doctrine of science itself are discussed. Following this, there is a discussion of the contrast between Fichte‹s and Schelling‹s position.
