Gillian Cormier-Brandenburg, a virginal and narcoleptic Ph.D. student at Harvard Divinity School, faces a crisis when her fellowship is revoked. Forced to find new income and dissertation subjects, she takes a job at Responsibility House, a halfway house for recovering addicts.
