Margaret Oliphant Wilson's life was marked by both literary success and profound personal tragedy. After publishing her first novel in 1849, she established a prolific writing career while navigating the challenges of marriage, motherhood, and loss. Following the death of her husband and three of her six children, she relied on her writing to support her family. Despite her achievements, the deaths of her remaining children deeply affected her, leading to a decline in her health and spirit. She passed away in 1897, leaving a legacy as a dedicated writer.
