This book provides a popular account of past and upcoming transits of Venus, which are rare astronomical events that are useful for measuring the distances between the Earth, the Sun, and other planets. The book covers the first transit observed by Horrocks in 1639 and provides predictions and observations for future transits up to 2012. It also includes a detailed account of the successes achieved during the December 1874 transit and suggestions for the transit of 1882.
