In Spring 2001, The European Vegetation Survey (=EVS) was able to celebrate the tenth anniversary of its own annual gatherings in Rome. For some years, the EVS has taken a particular vegetation type as a focus for the papers and posters at these workshops, which often have over 25 countries represented in a spirited sharing of knowledge and experience. Dry grasslands, mountain vegetation and meadows have been among the previous subjects and, in 2001, halophytic vegetation was chosen as the theme.
