Grandi tascabili economici Newton - 619: Sweeney Todd
Testo spagnolo a fronte
- 271pagine

Published for the first time with an index and Cardinal Hans Urs von Balthasar's afterword, this new English publication of Meditations on the Tarot is the landmark edition of one of the most important works of esoteric Christianity. Written anonymously and published posthumously, as was the author's wish, the intention of this work is for the reader to find a relationship with the author in the spiritual dimensions of existence. The author wanted not to be thought of as a personality who lived from 1900 to 1973, but as a friend who is communicating with us from beyond the boundaries of ordinary life.
This study Bible features the NRSV translation along with introductions, notes, and articles from over sixty Lutheran pastors and theologians. It invites readers to engage with the Bible through solid background material and unique Lutheran insights, fostering opportunities for faith reflection. With a reader-friendly layout, the biblical text is presented in a 10-point font, while study notes are in 7-point font, making it accessible for both youth and adults. The plain-language notes assume little to no prior theological knowledge, enhancing accessibility. The rich study notes encourage discovery by providing helpful background information and prompting direct engagement with the biblical text. The combination of biblical text and notes allows readers to learn about Scripture's content and how it connects to their lives today. Study notes are categorized into four areas: The World of the Bible covers historical, cultural, and geographic contexts; Biblical Concepts explain key words or themes in relation to other Scriptures; Lutheran Perspectives highlight theological insights and catechetical connections; and Faith Reflections offer commentary and questions for life application. This resource is perfect for anyone seeking a fresh encounter with Scripture.

Beowulf is one of the most important works of Old English literature. This epic poem is believed to have been composed between 700 and 750, its author is unknown. It tells the story of the hero Beowulf, and his battles against the monster Grendel (and Grendel's mother), and against an evil dragon. It tells mainly the mythical and to some extent the historical past of the Scandinavian Empire in the 6th century. Its diversity, complexity and profoundness, the timeless themes of power, courage, love and fidelity, together make Beowulf one of the most compelling and memorable works of world literature. As in the classical tradition of epic poetry (Homer's Odyssey, Virgil's Aeneid, Ferdowsi's The Epic of Kings) the poem is concerned with human values and moral choices. This book has entertained generations of readers, and it continues to be fascinating.

The Tale of the Heike
- 466pagine
- 17 ore di lettura
Often referred to as the "Iliad" of medieval Japanese literature, "The Tale of the Heike" is the epic 14th-century story of the struggle between the Taira clan and the Minamoto clan for control of Japan during the Genpei War, which lasted from 1180 to 1185. The story is told in episodes and was part of a long oral tradition in Japan of traveling bards or monks who would chant stories along to a "biwa," an instrument similar to a lute. The source of this famous tale is generally believed to have been a combination of numerous monks over many decades and cannot be attributed to a single author. The central themes are the Buddhist ideas of impermanence and karma. In haunting and evocative prose, the "The Tale of the Heike" shows how nothing lasts, the proud and mighty eventually fall, and everything is someday reduced to dust. While it is a story of warring samurais and bloody conflict, it is also tale of justice and retribution, as the evil and cruel face the rightful consequences of their actions. This enduring masterpiece, which has shaped Japanese culture and inspired countless tales of samurai, is a must-read for historians and anyone interested in this iconic warrior tradition. This edition is printed on premium acid-free paper and follows the abridged translation of A. L. Sadler.

What happens when the system designed to protect children fails? This is the reality in UK family courts regarding Parental Alienation, a form of post-divorce abuse. Cafcass defines Parental Alienation as when a child's hostility towards one parent is unjustified and results from psychological manipulation by the other parent. However, experts, therapists, and social workers lack training to effectively assess or address these cases. After years of presenting my situation to judges, experts, and lawyers, I found no consensus on the dynamics between my ex-wife, my children, and myself. It felt like I was trapped in a slow-motion car crash, desperately trying to prove a negative and find new ways to connect with my kids, only to hit dead ends as my ex-wife pursued her agenda. The family court system is overwhelmed, slow, and ill-equipped to handle such cases. Hearings are often delayed for months, and traditional safeguarding assessments fail to identify Parental Alienation. The longer a child is estranged from a parent, the more difficult it becomes to reverse the alienation, increasing the risk of mental health and behavioral issues. Alienated parents frequently experience post-traumatic symptoms, including anxiety and suicidal thoughts. This work aims to highlight the injustices surrounding Parental Alienation and advocate for meaningful reform, while also providing guidance for parents navigating family separation to recogn

Penguin Classics: The Saga of King Hrolf Kraki
- 144pagine
- 6 ore di lettura
Composed in medieval Iceland, Hrolf's Saga is one of the greatest of all mythic-legendary sagas, relating half-fantastical events that were said to have occurred in fifth-century Denmark. It tells of the exploits of King Hrolf and of his famous champions, including Bodvar Bjarki, the 'bear-warrior': a powerful figure whose might and bear-like nature are inspired by the same legendary heritage as Beowulf. Depicting a world of wizards, sorceresses and 'berserker' fighters - originally members of a cult of Odin - this is a compelling tale of ancient magic. A work of timeless power and beauty, it offers both a treasury of Icelandic prose and a masterful gathering of epic, cultic memory, traditional folk tale and myths from the Viking age and far earlier.
