Są zdania, które dzielą czas na „przed” i „po”. Jednym z tych zdań jest: kobieta traci swojego męża. Bezradnie obserwuje, jak z każdym dniem traci go coraz bardziej, jak przeszłość i przyszłość zapadają się w nieznane – tak jak statki, które spadają za krawędź mapy, tam, gdzie żyją potwory morskie. Wciąż pamięta wszystko o swoim mężu i mówi: to było prawdziwe.
