"SLPE" is mainly reserved for congress volumes, which are published in English and which give a general idea of international developments in sport and sport science. Apart from congress papers "SLPE" is open to further scientific reports, discourses and essays about sport and sport science. This congress volume describes the development of the world in different areas and its influence on sport. It contributes to the idea that sport is a homogeneous cultural flow across national and state boundaries.

Der Weltgipfel zum Schulsport (Berlin 1999) bildete die Plattform für einen internationalen Expertenaustausch zur Situation und zum Status des Schulsports weltweit. Der Kongressbericht enthält Beiträge international anerkannter Wissenschaftler und rief mittlerweile in vielen Ländern Reaktionen auf politischer Ebene hervor. Auch in Deutschland ist die Diskussion hierüber im Deutschen Sportbund, in der Kultusministerkonferenz der Länder und dem Sportausschuss des Deutschen Bundestages neu entfacht.
